This chapter taught me to keep my Lord and Savior informed of what I need. David showed me how to make my request known to God.
David asked God, God answered David. David obeyed God, and God did what he promised.
When we pray and God responds, we get the results of what we ask; this will advertise to the world that God is good! That is our Father's strategy to get people's attention.
How do we know when God is listening to us? How do we know when God is answering our prayer? God will answer us when we act in faith. God will not answer if we are wavering. To act in faith is to do what you know you need to do. For instance, if dishes need to be washed, get up and wash them. While you are getting things done, God will tell you what to do to get the desire you prayed. To waiver means to weave or sway unsteadily to and fro. This means you got nothing accomplished. Let us show God we believe he is moving on our behalf, while we continue to do what we know should be done.
Search for David
The Philistines, those ancient enemies of the Israelites, hear that David has been made King of Israel and they muster an army and go look for him. David hears that the Philistines are coming and goes to see them himself.
The Philistines had already raided the Rephaim Valley and David asks the Lord if he should go and attack them. He asks God if the Philistines would be delivered into his hands. God tells him that the Philistines would indeed be delivered in to David’s hands.
Defeating the Philistines
David and his soldiers then confront and defeat the Philistines at Baal Perazim. He said God has broken out against his enemies like water breaks out. So David called the place Baal Perazim. The defeated Philistines left images of their gods behind and David has them all burned.
The Philistines Return Again
But the Philistines again raided the valley. David again asks God what he should do. God tells him this time to circle around and attack the Philistines in front of a stand of poplars. He tells David that as soon as he hears marching sounds coming from the tops of the trees to strike because that would mean that the Lord has gone out ahead of David’s army to defeat the Philistines.
David obeys God and defeats the Philistines handily. After this, David’s fame goes out far and wide and God makes the nations of the world afraid of him.

1 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house.
2 And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.
3 And David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat more sons and daughters.
4 Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,
5 And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,
6 And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
7 And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.
8 And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.
9 And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
10 And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.
11 So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.
12 And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.
13 And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.
14 Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.
16 David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.
17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
