14 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Even if he never uttered it with his lips, God read his heart.  A fool is a person who knows the truth but ignores it.  A fool is corrupt and has done detestable, obnoxious, and hateful; just to name a few words; there is not one fool who does good.

2 The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.

God looks throughout the earth to see if there are any that did understand and seek His Word.

3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

When God looked over the earth, he saw no one who sought Him and His understanding.  All were unfit.  There were none who did right, no not one.  Imagine being the owner of a company and none of your employees do right.  

4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the Lord.

If we do not seek God's instructions, we have no knowledge.  Knowledge belongs to God.  There is nowhere else to get it from.

How do we eat people?  We use them until they are unable to produce productivity or we simply drain the life out of them.  We make God unattainable by refusing to educate people correctly in how to study and obey God's Word.

5 There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous.

Because many refuse to adhere to God's instructions, people will fear enormously because of rejecting God's Word.  Or could David be telling us there are people who reverence God's Word greatly?   God is in the seed of the righteous and this is His generation.  Jesus is that seed and through Him is a generation that will be called righteous.  Both comments hold truth.  If you refuse to hear God, then you will be afraid.  If you hear God's Word then you are in right standing with God because your fear is a reverence toward God.

6 Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the Lord is his refuge.

The unrighteous cause strain, humiliation, distress toward people who know God.  You do this by making ungodly laws and moral values decrease; after you persuade many to listen to wicked council, people live in hiding and shame because of your constant harassment of their faith in God.

7 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the Lord bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

David is asking for a turnaround in Jerusalem. David is requesting that the answer is sent from his home.  Indeed God granted David's request.  Jesus responded and we are that generation that is Jacob and Israel who live to honor and rejoice because of the gift from God who is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
