Psalm 22

22 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?

David went through some challenging encounters.  So much he thought God had forsaken him.  We cannot take it for granted that David's life was hunted by Saul.  Jesus said these same words.  These words coming from two different people tell us how much both of them looked to God.

O my God, I cry in the day time, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.

I can't find you, Lord, daytime I am running, nighttime I am hiding.  Do you hear me when I pray?

But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

You don't ignore people when they cry.  You are known for how you judge righteously for people.  I do not understand you now.

Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.

Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses trusted in you and you deliver them.

They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.

You rescued and they were not put to shame.

But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.

Men see me as nothing and they treat me as such.

All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

I am mocked.  What I believe is mocked, and I am only saying and doing as you said,

He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

David trusted in the Lord that he should deliver him.  Since you delight in me please deliver me.

But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts.

You gave me my life.  You allow me to live.

10 I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly.

You know me from birth.

11 Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.

I am scared and I need you.

12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.

Well-known bulls are surrounding me.

13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.

They look at me as dinner.

14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.

My inside is scared.

15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

I ran from my son without my shoes on and it hurt.

17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.

I talk to my wives and children and they stare at me.

18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

As someone who has fame negative or positive, it is common for people to want to own something from them.  Perhaps it is a conversation piece.  It makes us feel somewhat important.

19 But be not thou far from me, O Lord: O my strength, haste thee to help me.

David continues to make his plea for God to help him.

20 Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.

David is saying as for me deliver me from the sword; perhaps from Absolam (David's son).  Then David cries out for Absolam, (possibly) from the power of the people who have not hearted.

21 Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.

Save me from the ruthless people who are trying to take my life.

22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.

Something happens between verses 21 and 22, David has his problem solved by God.

23 Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.

Don't waste people of God! If you need God, He is there for you! So praise Him at all times!

24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.

At first, I could not tell where He was.  Now I know He was there all the time.

25 My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.

I am not ashamed of you.  I will make you known everywhere!

26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the Lord that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.

The meek (those that obey me) will praise You!

27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

Nobody will be left out!  All will worship you.

28 For the kingdom is the Lord's: and he is the governor among the nations.

God is both Lord and King!

29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.

All, saved and unbelievers will bow down to you as Lord.

30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

David prophesies the coming of Jesus.  Jesus is Lord!

31 They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

If Jesus is lifted up, if Jesus is made known by His Word, people will run to him 100%.  They will come because he knows everything about all.

DAVID CRIED

GOD DRIED HIS EYES

GOD SPOKE PEACE

THE ENEMY CEASED

David prophesied

of the coming of the Christ

To save our lives

He paid full price
