Psalm 31

31 In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.

David said Lord I trust you.  Jesus was called the son of David.  David said never let me be ashamed of how I trust you; not yesterday, today, and tomorrow don't let me have to eat my words.  Deliver me according to what you know is right.

Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.

In this song David petitions God to bow down his ear to him; come close to me and he says to God, deliver me in a hurry.  Keep your solid promise to me and defend me when I am in need of defending.

For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.

You are my force and my protection; because I know your reputation, lead me.

Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.

There are those dug holes for me.  Don't let me slip into one of them.  You hold me up.  If I have any strength, it is because of you.

Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.

I want to be totally controlled by you.  You paid the price for me.  You rule truth.

I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the Lord.

I have dishonest people.  I trust the Word of God.

I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;

I will be glad and I will show it! because you paid attention when I told you I had problems.  You were there for me in my troubles.

And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.

You did not let my enemies overtake me.  You gave me a large place and I was not cramped while I waited on you.

Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.

Have mercy of me, Lord.  I am a king but I am tired.

10 For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.

I have done wrong many times.  I feel it in my body.

11 I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.

12 I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.

I am forsaken by those who said they loved, honor, or respected me.

13 For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.

I heard them agree to take my life.  I heard them speak lies about me.

14 But I trusted in thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my God.

I trust your Word.

15 My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.

Don't let those who want to harm me, succeed.

16 Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake.

Let all the people know you are my God.

17 Let me not be ashamed, O Lord; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.

If you don't help me I will be humiliated.  Don't let my trust in you be ignored.  Let those who do not trust you lose life and go to a place we cannot hear them speak.

18 Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

Silence all liars against me.

19 Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!

You have goods laid up for those who obey your Word in this present world.

20 Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

Not many go to the Word of God.  We can run to God in His Word and He will direct our goings.  Let me see in your Word my next move.

21 Blessed be the Lord: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.

In a secure place, you showed me some awesome things about you.

22 For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.

One time I feared and said what I said hastily.  But you proved me wrong and listened to me and answered me.

23 O love the Lord, all ye his saints: for the Lord preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

Love the Word people of God.  God will keep you and do good to you if you seek Him; those who are proud are in trouble.

24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.

Take the Word of God and be fully filled with it.  It will give you courage that will be good.  God will show His strength through you if you stay in His Word.
