In order to understand this song, you have to read the entire lyrics of this chapter written by David.
David sinned knowingly and God gave him a public display of his punishnent.
Those who were around David steered clear of him in Psalm 38.  After reading this Psalm 39 slowly, we discovered that David was asking God to relieve him of his well deserved punishement.  Although David was king, David was not exempt from the punishment executed by God.  God did not think of how to punish David the moment David sinned; God gave Moses instructions that were already outlined during the exodus.  There is no sin that does not have consequences that will be out of line with the written Word of God.  The penalty of the Word, of God when we sin is already set in judge by God as in a court of law.
David knew why he was having pain.  What he did not know was how long the pain would last.  David asked to be forgiven in chapter 38 and by chapter 39 he was exahuasted.
No matter what was going on in David's life he always talk to God.  In good times or bad times, David talk about what was going on to God.
I learned from this chapter to talk to God all the time.  God is not like man, He wants to hear us talk even if it is because we are being disciplined.  Never let a day go by without talking to Our Father.

39 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue:

I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before m

I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.

My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,

Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.

Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.

And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.

I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it.

10 Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand.

11 When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah.

12 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

13 O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.

Never let a day go by

without talking to God

even though you might be wrong

and life is really hard

He always want to hear us

And he listens to our cry

no matter what is going 4on

never let a day go by.
