Psalm 40

40 I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

David waited for the Lord who was his God to respond.  He did not seek other religions.  God came through!

He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

God never thought I was not good enough to find.  I was lost and dirty, but He took his clean hands and picked me up and set me on display, and gave me his navigation system which is His Word.

And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.

God gave me new lyrics.  My songs will be published so that others will know the God I sing about!

Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

Anyone who makes God his choice will be happy!  The Word of God is my choice and I am not looking for anyone or anything else.

Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

God took many people to make something for me.  For example; how many people does it take to make one car? I took the birth of the people, the teachers who taught them how to put it together, the mother and fathers of the mechanics, the books needed, the paper needed to make the books, the food they ate when they took a break, the air condition, the tools, the electricity.......my point is God thought enough to allow people to be born all over the world to create me a car and that would take to much time to consider.

Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.

God provided sacrifices IF we needed them.  However, it was not what he wanted us to do.  He wanted us to treat each other right.  The sacrifices were there just in case we needed them.  An eraser is there in case we make mistakes.  The pencil was made to write.  We use the eraser IF we need to when we make mistakes.  The lead is why we buy the pencil.  God wants us to live right.  God wants us to treat people right.  And we can do it!

Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,

If we stay in the Word of God and study it carefully, we will find ourselves in the Word.  Everyone has an assignment, it is up to us like David to discover ourselves in the book of God.

I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

When we find ourselves, we will be delighted to follow God's instructions.

I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O Lord, thou knowest.

You will not be able to keep it to yourself!

10 I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.

The goodness of God is too good to hide!

11 Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Lord: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.

Keep me Oh Lord!  I want to be kept by you!

12 For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.

Evil is around me.  David could be talking about the iniquities of others or his own iniquities that are many; however, he tells God about wrong and it was trying to hold him down.

13 Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me: O Lord, make haste to help me.

David is asking God to be pleased when he calls him to answer.

14 Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.

All who want to do me wrong, cause shame to be their reward.

15 Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha.

All who speak against Your Word concerning me, let it not prosper.

16 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified.

Encourage those who seek Your Word.  Make God Big in the earth!

17 But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

Don't forget little old me Lord.
