Psalm 80

A cry for help after we have done wrong.

80 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth.
Father, I know you.  I know where I can find you.  Please help.

Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up thy strength, and come and save us.

The strongest have become weak.  Move on our behalf and show us your strength and show the enemy You are our God.

Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Turn us toward you.  You turn us as a baker moves his pastry.  May Your eyes look into our eyes and take away the darkness from around us with your bright light.

Lord God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?

When we pray, when will You respond to our plea?

When will things be the way they were?

Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.

We ate tears and drank tears and the tears we ate and drank were a lot.

Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves.

We are subdued by You and our enemies take advantage of us.

Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Place us so we can see you Lord and take away the gloom of the life we now see.

Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.

You brought us as something that produces good.  You put the enemy out and gave us the land and You planted us in it.

Thou preparedst room before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.

We came in and You made us flourish.  You caused us to take deep root.  You secured us in the spot You prepared for us.

10 The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars.

We were great!  We had so much!  We were well known.

11 She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.

What you made of us was more than anyone could have known.

12 Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?

Lord look at us.  Why are we poor when at one time we were rich and very rich?  People who refuse to know you, torment us and You allow them to do so.

13 The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.

We are destroyed by wild men.

14 Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;

Find us, Lord.  We beg of You.

15 And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself.

Whatever You offer we want!  Your right-hand holds what is right and good for us.

16 It is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

When you look at us now, we see your anger.  Because of this we are being destroyed.

17 Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.

We need a Savior.  Let Your right hand be upon Him and show us You through Him.

18 So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

Send Him and we will not go back from You.  Make us alive and we will call upon You.

19 Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Position us toward you.  Let Your light shine directly upon us.
