Psalm 86

David was king of Israel.  David was recognized by God.  David wanted to lead people in the ways of God.  David talked to God.  David wanted the heart of God.  David knew he was David and God was God.

86 Bow down thine ear, O Lord, hear me: for I am poor and needy.

Lord, come close enough to me and listen to what I want to say; I am humbled in Your presence and in want of You.

Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee.

Devoted entirely to the work of the deity.

Protect my soul: for I fear You: Lord, rescue me who trust in You.

Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily.

Show compassion toward me, for I express myself to you every day.

Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

Allow me to rejoice: because of You, O Lord, do I position myself to take a stand for what You represent.

For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

You, Lord, are generous and ready to give to anyone who calls upon Your name.

Give ear, O Lord, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications.

Listen to my prayer O Lord; and show yourself present to the words of my plea.

In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.

When I get in trouble I will call You:  because You will answer me.

Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works.

There are other beings/ gods, but there is no one like You!  No other beings/god has done anything like You what You have done.

All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.

Everybody you made will one day come and acknowledge and bow down before You, and they will finally recognize  Your name is great!

10 For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone.

You are God and You are God alone; You do things that are marvelous.

11 Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.

Teach me how You do things, O Lord:  I will follow what is right: make my heart one with Your Word.

12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.

I will praise You all the time!  I will do what I do and I will do it right.  I will pay attention to how I do what I do when I serve others.

I will express my value of God in my conduct.

13 For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.

Great is your mercy you have shown me: You have delivered me from some low down places.

1O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set thee before them.

Ungodly men rise up to fight against me.  They violently seek after my flesh and my spirit: They have not set their hearts to attend unto Your Word.

15 But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, long suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.

But You are good and full of goodness!

16 O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid.

Come toward me and deliver me from the hand of all these evil people.

17 Shew me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because thou, Lord, hast holpen me, and comforted me.

Do something special for me and let everyone know it is from you.  Make them ashamed because You helped me and made me feel better.
