Psalm 144
144 Blessed be the Lord my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:
David noticed details about God. The Lord teaches, not the Lord taught; God is alive and always there to instruct us. David emphasizes the hands being used and the fingers doing what fingers do. David paid attention to the details and attributes of God. David was amazed by God.
David was a warrior. David knew that all he had come to learn was from the Hand of God using Him to fight. When we are gifted to do what we do, it is because of God who works through us.
2 My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.
David knew who God was to him. Every war David won, he knew God was the one who caused him to win. When we succeed, it is the Lord who does what is good through us.
3 Lord, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him!
Why do you love man so much, Lord?
4 Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away.
Humans live in excessive pride. Man makes choices that show he wastes time by not producing much.
5 Bow thy heavens, O Lord, and come down: touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.
Look down upon us Lord, and move into our space. Let us know by the smoke of the mountains You are here.
6 Cast forth lightning, and scatter them: shoot out thine arrows, and destroy them.
Allow lightning to scatter people who refuse to do what is right. Shoot arrows and wipe them from the face of the earth.
7 Send thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of great waters, from the hand of strange children;
Deliver me from evil people.
8 Whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
Remove people who tell lies to make themselves look good. and deliver me from those who use their right hands to do wrong.
9 I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee.
I want to see You move so that I can sing a new song because you made a new move in moving on our behalf.
10 It is he that giveth salvation unto kings: who delivereth David his servant from the hurtful sword.
It is God who fights for us. All the good we do, it is because of who God is and what He does through us.
11 Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood:
Remove me from evildoers who speak proud words and their stronger hand deals deceitfully.
12 That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace:
Let our boys grow as plants who grow with vigor and strong enough to show they are producing. Let our girls be strong enough to hold up our houses, let our daughters be strong and beautiful. May both of them be set apart with the attributes that show You are our God.
13 That our garners may be full, affording all manner of store: that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets:
That our storehouses may be full with all kind of goods. Let our sheep produce more sheep abundantly.
Let us be producers of more and more people like You by our customer service.
14 That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets.
May we be known as a people that work hard and let our work be so good until there will be no room for complaining in our neighborhoods.
15 Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the Lord.
When we behave as You do Lord, we will be happy people.
