Proverbs 10

10
The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

The advice of Solomon.  A son who listens to sound advice makes a glad father: but a son who chose not to listen weighs heavy on his mother.

Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.

The greatest gift God gave man is life.  If a man owns the wealth of the world and leaves God out of it, it profits nothing.

The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.

God will not allow anyone who seeks Him to go without natural or spiritual food:  but he destroys the productivity of wicked or evil men.  If a wicked man gives advice, God tosses it.  Wicked advice will never stand. The God of the Philistines was thrown down when it stood beside the Word of God.

He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

Eventually, anyone who does not handle money right will become poor.  But the one who treats money wisely will be rich.

He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

A wise son gathers what he planted and takes good care of what is reaped.  A foolish son sees the harvest and ignores the goods and the goods reaped are wasted.

Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

You can see that a just man is just: but corruptness is spread over the entrance of the wicked.  People are able to see what is good and what is evil.

The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

A good product will be made known and its name will be published by word of mouth, the name brand of the wicked shall be thrown out, decomposed, or decayed.

The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

A wise man loves the Word of God, but a loud-mouth fool shall not stand.

He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

Anyone who trusts and obeys God will stand:  But a man without God will be known as a man that does not know God.

10 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

If a good man closes his eyes for a wink at wrong, he will suffer for it; however, if a fool is making noise he will fall.

For instance, if you see something wrong in a relationship and you overlook it, you will have to go through unnecessary pain.

But a wicked man is doomed from the beginning.

11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

A righteous man's mouth is full of wisdom: but a wicked man's mouth is full of violence.

12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

When the Word of God is absent, people stir up angry or bitter disagreement over fundamental issues: but God's word gives sound advice in every matter pertaining to man's desires.

13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

A man who knows God's Word will give sound advice: but a man who refuses God's Word will get in trouble.

14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

Living in God's Word is like building an account that increases: but the mouth of the fool's account is very close to nothing.

15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

A rich man is known by what is visible: a poor man's identity is poverty.

A city that has a strong government and a plan of protection is owned by a rich man.  A city that is not taken care of and is run by a weak government lives in poverty.

16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

The fruit of people who care about the community does what it takes to build a strong community: if sin is promoted in a community, it shows by the lack of what is good for the people.

17 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.

Anyone who follows God's Word will live: but anyone who refuses God's Word and His correction will be found wrong.

18 He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.

A fool is anyone who says one thing and means another and makes false statements about others.  These are two attributes of a fool.

19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

You will definitely find a lie in a conversation with anyone who talks a lot.  A man who does not talk much is considered wise.

20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.

People want to hear the Word of God.  Religion talks of God without knowing God and it has little worth.

21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

God's Word feeds a lot of people:  but a man without God's Word dies because they are not fed by God.

22 The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

What God gives is good. You will never find fault with anything God gives.

23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

A fool lives to entertain in foolishness: but you can understand a man who lives by the Word of God.

24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

A wicked man will live in hell.  (a life without God) A wise man will have eternal life.

25 As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

Suddenly the wicked will be destroyed:  But the righteous man will stand.

26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

A lazy man on the job is a sore.

27 The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

A man that fears God, his days are added to him: but God cuts off the years of the wicked.

28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

Godly people live gladly: but a wicked person's hope never happens.

29 The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

When a man follows God's way he knows it will strengthen him as he follows God's plan: but he who fails to follow God's Word is a waste of time.

30 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.

The righteous will stand: but the wicked will be removed.

31 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

When God's Word is spoken, it shows forth wisdom: but a man who sows discord shall be cut off.

32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.

When a God-fearing man speaks, the people understand what is being spoken and he speaks a word in the nick of time:  but the wicked man speaks stupidity.
