David was a musician and a warrior.  What a combination!  In this chapter, David and the chief of his armies came together to organize the musicians of Israel.  If some of the strongest men on earth want God's music right, then music is recognized by all people from all stages of life.
God uses David to express his heart that everything that breathes to praise the Lord.
We learned through the organization of the music department, those who played instruments were to play with the word of God as their focus.  The instruments must accompany the prophecy of God's heart.  We can only do that if we have the word in each of us. With the word in us, the sounds we make penetrate the listeners and draws us and those who listen to God's word.  Just as the river that has no lyrics,  it glorifies God in praise.  The wind, trees, birds, ground, mountains, animals all prophesy that God alone is God.
David is on a mission to organize everything concerning worship before his death.  David organizes so well it will behoove worshipers today to follow his methodology.  When we are organized we represent God.  How we do things distinguishes us from the ways of the world.
David lists the names of the all people who will be a part of each part of the ministry.  I believe God is showing us how important it is for us to fellowship together so much so that we learn more than what we can do, but learn who we are, even our names.  We can learn from God how to establish every facet of life by understanding how David, a man that carried God's heart, made things orderly.
