Isaiah 7
Isaiah 7:1-25 (KJV) 1 And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, [that] Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.
Ahaz is the leader of Judah or the southern kingdom of Israel.
Rezin is the king of Syria
Remaliah is the king of Israel.
Rezin and the king of Israel are preparing to start a war with Ahaz, the king of Judah. (David's kingdom). Anyone who comes against God's people will not win.
2 And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.
The word got back to Ahaz that he would be attacked and he and the people of Judah became extremely afraid.
3 Then said the LORD unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shearjashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field;
God told Isaiah and his son to meet up with Ahaz. God knew exactly where he was.
God knows everything about us and our whereabouts.
4 And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.
God told Ahaz to calm down. Those that have spoken against you are a smoke in the air.
5 Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,
God repeated the words Ahaz's enemies had spoken behind Ahaz's back.
6 Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set a king in the midst of it, [even] the son of Tabeal:
God told Ahaz that the kings who wanted to fight him stated they would attack and set up a king in their honor. His name will be Tabeal.
God knew the whole conversation. When we speak, God listens.
7 Thus saith the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.
God said, what they plan will not work and it will not happen.
When the enemy builds a case against God's people, it will not work.
8 For the head of Syria [is] Damascus, and the head of Damascus [is] Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people.
God said I know who is wasting their time. Syria is an outsider and your brother Ephraim is a backslider. God told him exactly how many years he would destroy their purpose. 65 years will pass and the northern kingdom will be totally wiped from a kingdom that existed.
9 And the head of Ephraim [is] Samaria, and the head of Samaria [is] Remaliah's son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.
10 Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,
God continued to speak to Ahaz,
11 Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.
Ask me for anything you want; nothing is too high or too low.
12 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.
Ahaz was a hypocrite pretending by saying, no I can't and won't dishonor God. (read the history of Ahaz)
13 And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; [Is it] a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
Isaiah turns to the people of Judah. Let it be known you may make each other tired, but you will not ever make God tired.
God is not like man.
14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
God said, Jesus will be born and this is your sign. He will be born of a virgin. So you had your chance to ask what you wanted but I told you Jesus will be born just as I have stated.
15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.
As a child who has not learned to the difference between butter and honey because he is too young, that is how long it will be before I remove you from your land for doubting me.
How long does it take a baby to know right from wrong? that is how long it will be before your kingdom will collapse.
16 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.
You don't like my leadership says the Lord? The land I gave you is coming down quickly.
17 The LORD shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father's house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; [even] the king of Assyria.
God describes in detail the destructions that will take place.
The moment Israel split into 2 kingdoms will be the starting point of my wrath. You will be invaded by the king of Assyria, an army you will not defeat. This happened because Judah rejected God's counsel.
18 And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the LORD shall hiss for the fly that [is] in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that [is] in the land of Assyria.
When God tells you your fate and describes it many times using details. He wants you to know the chaos is sent from Him when it happens.
Egypt is coming and Assyria is coming against you. This time it is not just talking, it will happen. We cannot make a determination to go against God's clear Word.
19 And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes.
The enemy's army will take over in every area and you will see them.
20 In the same day shall the Lord shave with a razor that is hired, [namely], by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall also consume the beard.
The enemy God will use will shave the hair from your head to your feet and your beard also. They will be in control of your whole body.
Why do we have to be constantly beaten to obey?
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] a man shall nourish a young cow, and two sheep;
Food will be scarce.
22 And it shall come to pass, for the abundance of milk [that] they shall give he shall eat butter: for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the land.
You will have selected food and you will get tired of the same two things eaten all the time.
23 And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] every place shall be, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings, it shall [even] be for briers and thorns.
Your gardens will dry up. These were your well-known crops. No longer will they be available.
24 With arrows and with bows shall [men] come thither; because all the land shall become briers and thorns.
The enemy will have enough ammunition to destroy.
25 And [on] all hills that shall be digged with the mattock, there shall not come thither the fear of briers and thorns: but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of lesser cattle.
You won't find good land to grow crops, but the cattle will.
