Isaiah 8

Isaiah 8:1-22 (KJV) 1 Moreover the LORD said unto me, Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man's pen concerning Mahershalalhashbaz.

Make a large sign and write this name on it, Ma her sha lal hash baz.  I want man to know I told you to write this name and I want them to see.  The name means hurry to the plunder.  This name came from God as a sign for His people.

2 And I took unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.

Isaiah took two witnesses to watch him record.  He took Uriah, Zechariah.

3 And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said the LORD to me, Call his name Mahershalalhashbaz.

Isaiah and his wife conceived and bare a son.  Then God gave further instructions and said call him Mahershalalhashbaz.

4 For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.

Before the Isaiah son will be able to say these words,  mama and daddy, Damascus and Samaria will be robbed by Assyria.

5 The LORD spake also unto me again, saying,

The Lord said more,

6 Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son;

My people do not like waters that flow softly; they love excitement;

7 Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, [even] the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:

My people want a storm.  I will send them a king and his army that will show them the contrast of living and desperately hanging on for their dear lives.

8 And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach [even] to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.

He will be on the hunt.  He will not leave any area untouched.  You did not want me, you will have someone who has the heart you have.  God shields us and protects us, when God is not holding the enemy back the enemy will attack.

9 Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.

Link up to my people and you will be broken, listen from a long way off, put on your armor, put on your armor and you still will be broken into pieces.

10 Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God [is] with us.

Have your meetings and try to avoid my wrath, it will not work: Isaiah is speaking on behalf of God when he said God is with us.

11 For the LORD spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,

12 Say ye not, A confederacy, to all [them to] whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.

This is not of God they say, it is a conspiracy or they try to draw a conclusion as to why things are as they are.  Isaiah was instructed to not be afraid of what will happen.

13 Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and [let] him [be] your fear, and [let] him [be] your dread.

Fear God only.  Do not fear many or few men.

14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

God is a sanctuary for his people, but for those who disobey Him, I will cause you to fall hoping you would get up.

15 And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

You will try to run but you won't make it,  You will be hurt while captured.

16 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.

Closed the Word of God and stop teaching the students.

17 And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

Isaiah is saying as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

18 Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me [are] for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.

God has chosen me and my children to be a sign for you to know He has spoken.  When our lives reflect the image of Christ we become as a banner or beacon of life for others to see how to be guided into the right directions designed by God.

19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

Even in hard times people still refuse to talk to God.

20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them.

If you are not getting a Word from God it is because you do not know Him.

21 And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.

They will be distressed and hungry and curse the king and God because of the problems they brought upon themselves.

22 And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and [they shall be] driven to darkness.

Israel is going from darkness into more darkness.
