Isaiah 65
Isaiah 65:1-25 (KJV)
1 I am sought of [them that] asked not [for me]; I am found of [them that] sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation [that] was not called by my name.
I made myself known to you and you ignored me. A new nation, will call me. This nation does not know me, however, they seek me and I will teach them my name.
2 I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way [that was] not good, after their own thoughts;
I held nothing back from you. Where ever you were I extended my hands to meet your need. You refused to allow me to be your God.
3 A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;
You did things in my face to insult me; you made other gods out of things that belong to me.
4 Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine's flesh, and broth of abominable [things is in] their vessels;
Those things that you made had no life; they still are in the place where the dead are. You ate things that were not good, things are commanded you not to eat;
5 Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These [are] a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.
You told me you didn't need me and move away from you; you said you were better than me. The things that you did came to me as a bad scent.
6 Behold, [it is] written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom,
It is written, and it is written by me, I will not be quiet and I will pay you for the wrong you have done.
7 Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the LORD, which have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.
I will pay you for the wrong you did and for the wrong your parents did. You spoke evil of me and I will pay you for the things you did to hurt others.
8 Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and [one] saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing [is] in it: so will I do for my servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all.
You asked me not to destroy everybody and I will not do that. For the sake of those who follow my name, I will not destroy you.
9 And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.
I will give you my son, and he will show you my ways.
10 And Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor a place for the herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me.
I have designated places for the cattle that he will have because it would be so many. Because you have obeyed me I would do this for you.
11 But ye [are] they that forsake the LORD, that forget my holy mountain, that prepare a table for that troop, and that furnish the drink offering unto that number.
My own people forgot who I am and did things against me.
12 Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose [that] wherein I delighted not.
Because of your disobedience, you will die, and I will count you one by one. I called you and you did not answer; you did wrong in my face and you delighted in doing so.
13 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed:
I will make a difference between those who obeyed me and those who did not obey me. For example; my people will eat, you will not, my people will drink but you will be thirsty, my people will be happy but you will be a shame.
14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.
The people who obey me will be very happy, but you will be very sad and you will howl, because of the wrong you have done.
15 And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name:
Because of your behavior, your name will stink, among the people who do the right thing. I am God and I will be the one to make sure that you are not left alive.
16 That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes.
My people will live by my word. They will be blessed because I will bless them they will tell the truth because they will learn the truth. All of the things that they did that did not please me before, I will forget those things
17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
I am going to make a new community; everything that you did that I did not assign for you to do, will not be a part of my new community. I control what I remember and I control but I will forget. The only thing that I will remember is the good things.
18 But be ye glad and rejoice for ever [in that] which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.
I want you to be glad for the things that I have made, I may Jerusalem, and Jerusalem is a good place made for people to be happy.
19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.
The place I have created for you is a good place, and you will be so glad to be a part of it.
20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner [being] an hundred years old shall be accursed.
Babies will live to get 100 years old, the older people will live the fullness of their days and have a good life living. But you will live but you will hate the life that you are living because you will not obey me.
21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit [them]; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.
My people will build houses, plant vineyards, and eat their own food that they grow.
22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree [are] the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
They will build their own houses and nobody else will take them; they will plant their own food and nobody else will eat it. For my people will live as long as a tree lives and they will enjoy the work of their hands.
23 They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they [are] the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.
Everything that my people do will prosper; because they are the people that I have blessed and I also bless their children.
24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
If they thought of a good thing they want, it will be there before they can even ask for it. If I hear them calling out I will answer before they call Me.
25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust [shall be] the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.
This place is so good that even the animals will get along. The wild animals will lay down with the domestic animals. This is my plan! Those who obey me will see everything that I have spoken. I am God.
