Jeremiah 45
Jeremiah 45:1-5 (NLT)
1 The prophet Jeremiah gave a message to Baruch son of Neriah in the fourth year of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, after Baruch had written down everything Jeremiah had dictated to him. He said,
Baruch is the writer of Jeremiah's prophesy when he was held in the prison of the king's court. He wrote down and read what Jeremiah said and delivered it to the people God told Jeremiah to deliver it to.
Jeremiah is given Baruch a message from God.
2 “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch:
The message is from the Lord directly meant to be given to Baruch:
3 You have said, ‘I am overwhelmed with trouble! Haven’t I had enough pain already? And now the LORD has added more! I am worn out from sighing and can find no rest.’
Baruch complain of being overwhelmed. Because of the message of truth, Baruch felt as he did when he spoke because of how he was being treated by the people to whom he gave the message. When we tell the truth, people in darkness will hate the sound of unveiling their wrong and hate the person who delivers the message from God who sees all, and God's message is light.
Perhaps Baruch was waiting on a promotion because of obeying God, I say this because of what God said to Jeremiah in verse five. Baruch obeyed God and it seemed right to him to be rewarded. I have felt the same way. You do as God speaks and people treat you in a way that you hope to someday be respected for carrying the message of God. Jesus did what He was assigned to do, and in this life, he was not celebrated for his accomplishments. The Father had a message for Baruch and I am humbled in knowing that the Father knows my name too. Wow! That is good!!!!!
4 “Baruch, this is what the LORD says: ‘I will destroy this nation that I built. I will uproot what I planted.
God clearly told Baruch I am going to do what I told you to tell the people I will do.
5 Are you seeking great things for yourself? Don’t do it! I will bring great disaster upon all these people; but I will give you your life as a reward wherever you go. I, the LORD, have spoken!’”
God simply told Baruch if you are seeking something great, don't; I will allow you to live while I complete what I said I will do.
