On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.

God is in control.  We do not have to believe it, although it is better if we do.  God directs the king and could not fall asleep.  While all the things that are going on wrong in the king's domain, God is looking out for anyone who is connected to him. He is starting with the king first to bring correction to the plan of his people's enemies.

And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.

God controls the pages of life.  While reading the chronicles, the king was reminded of the hit on his life by two men.   After a thorough investigation, those two men were commanded to be hung.

And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.

Mordecai told Esther about the men's plot and she told her husband what Mordecai conveyed to her.  God does not forget the right and good things anyone does.   The king wanted to show favor to Mordecai for saving his life.

And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king's house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.

God uses the king.  The king asks who's in the court?  What a question!  Talk about perfect timing!!!!   Haman is in the courtyard of the king's house and is in the process of plotting more evil toward Mordecai.  Haman perhaps could have spoken to the king at first to kill Mordecai and the king may have granted him the right to do so, but Haman got greedy and he wants to kill him now.  Nobody gets by God's eye.

And the king's servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.

Haman is in the court of the king's house, and rightfully so.  The king promoted him and he was not in violation to be where he was.  He was right where God planned him to be.  When can learn from this scene that God is in control of the evil and the good?

So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?

God is good and funny.  The king asks Haman a question of what to do for a man that he wants to show favor to?  Haman thought in his own mind, he is talking about himself.

And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour,

Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:

Here goes Haman's list of things that the king could do:

Let the man,

1.    wear your royal apparel that the king wore himself.

2.   ride on king's private horse

3. wear kings royal crown

And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.

And the list continues:

4.  Let the noble bring these items to the man selected

5. Let the nobleman you send put these items of the man you want to honor.

6.  Let the man you want to honor ride on horseback through the city of the king while proclaiming or announcing his name.

These are the things Haman told the king to do for the man of honor.

10 Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king's gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.

The king had no idea that Haman was insincere.  The king in his innocence said "I love it!  Let this be done for Mordecai!" The king even knew that Mordecai sat at his gate.  God is funny!!!!  Haman, you had a splendid idea, and don't let one thing that you said be undone for Mordecai!

11 Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour.

Haman was the nobleman that rode Mordecai around as decreed by the king.  I cannot imagine what Mordecai was thinking.  Nothing he has plotted is working.  God makes your enemy your footstool.  If we do good to mankind, God will absolutely make your enemy look foolish.  It does not matter to God, whether your enemy is rich or not, if you plot you will get got!

12 And Mordecai came again to the king's gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.

Mordecai rode and when the ride was over, he parked back to the spot where he was before.  All of what was done in Mordecai's honor meant nothing, as long as the people were not safe.  Haman went back to his house, this time with a totally different spirit.  He was mourning.  He knew that something ain't right.  I have seen this happen time and time again.  When you do right, God makes his presence known in you and those who spoke against you are left looking and feeling like Haman.

13 And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.

Haman was a man who likes to communicate his day.  He was truthful about how he felt.  But how he felt was evil.  Haman called his friends and wife again and told them what happened.  Perhaps they were not present to see the festivity.  Otherwise, why did he go into details to explain his early morning adventure?  The wife and friends, (Haman's wise advisors) were called. After listening to Haman, Haman's wise men and his wife reverse the previous conversation. Now, Haman, things are not going the way we thought. You are in some serious trouble.  This whole thing has flipped around.  You will not be able to undo this.  We don't have any further advice.  Prepare to meet your fate.

14 And while they were yet talking with him, came the king's chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.

While they were yet discouraging Haman, the king's men hurriedly walked into the room to bring in Haman to be the guest of honor to dine with the king and queen.  Haman has a quite busy day so far.

My Minute SongEsther 6

God is in control

There is nothing he doesn’t know

Nothing too small or too great

He’s a God that is never late

Though it seems that your enemy

Has the last word

You may not see all the things God does

But we know He’s at work

God is in control

There is nothing he doesn’t know

Nothing too small or too great

He’s a God that is never late
