7 So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen.
The king kept his word toward Esther. This was one time if Haman could have avoided being in the presence of the king he would have not been there. Early that day Haman was humiliated by his own thoughts to think he was the man of honor, when in fact, the person he hated the most of the man of the hour. This entire day for Haman was defeat. The word says in that day of judgment, let it what it is. The entire day doomed. He that is unjust let him be unjust still. The king here has the power. God is King and that day His Power will be known.
2 And the king said again unto Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition, queen Esther? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? and it shall be performed, even to the half of the kingdom.
The king met with Esther because it was an appointed time that could not be avoided. Although he was king, he was submitted to his wife's a Jewish girl whom he had not considered any more than any other women he had caged. When a man or woman of God is of God's plan everybody must become subject to the authority they have inside or ordained by God, even an earthly king. Many people see God in this chapter as God is not seen or heard. Have you understood the silence of God? When God is silent, watch how things move. He is not silent because he is not present, His silence sometimes means something is going on and I do not want to speak. There will be a day when we will see the wrath of God. That day he will not speak. You will only see his actions.
3 Then Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found favour in thy sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request:
Esther is a powerful woman at this time, having completed a three-day fast day and night. Esther's position is not to be viewed as a woman or wife, Esther is as Jesus said, these kinds of spirits are removed by fasting and prayer. The message Esther is carrying is direct contact of having been in the presence of a living God. King what I am about to say to you could cost me my life. However, I am asking you to hear me out. Esther grabs the king's attention because she's not only standing in the presence of the king because she wants to live, she is stating, I want to live and I want my people to live also. Having a death sentence hovering over your life is not an ordinary sentence. The king had the power to take life. But God has the power to give, control, and take life.
4 For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmen and bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy could not countervail the king's damage.
Esther opens her statement by addressing why she wanted to meet with the king. I and my people have been sold. We were sold meaning, someone purchased us as animals, only to have us killed. And if that was not good enough, they want us off the face of the earth. They want an entire nation of people who have served you and have not caused anyone any problems when under (your) their control; (although they caused problems between each other).
5 Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said unto Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume in his heart to do so?
Now the king speaks, who is he who would do such a thing? The king is unaware of who came up with a hideous plot to be carried out. As David was when Nathan confronted him, Esther could have said, you are the man and Haman could have been relieved. Because the ultimate person who had the control is the king. Be it as it may, the king appointed Haman to make decisions and this time the king's heart is in the right place because he admits here I have no clue in who might have been the person behind this heinous behavior.
6 And Esther said, The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.
Esther said the adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman. Esther who seems to be easygoing and a person who was easily managed is speaking as a witness and she is not holding back. Esther uses three words to describe Haman; adversary, enemy, and wicked. This is how God sees anyone who speaks against His people. To speak or go against God's people is insane! You are talking about people who are not a threat to anyone. And you have the audacity to come against a lamb? An innocent group of people? because they refuse to do what should not be done?
7 And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden: and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.
Out of all the places the king could have gone because he was in a rage, he went into the palace garden. Was it because he had no other place to go? Or could it signify a place we ought to go when we're at our wit's end? What represents a garden? This is the place God brought man into. The garden of Eden. The garden is the place Jesus resorted to when he knew he was about to face death. Why a garden? The garden is a starting point. The king had gone as far as he could go in his mind. When we have gone as far as we can go, a garden can be a place of a new beginning. In the midst of the roughest place in life, going into a spot that lets you know there is hope is comforting.
While the king is regrouping, Haman is thinking of pleading for his life. He turns to the person who called him out on his deeds. Jesus said in that day people we be pleading for life as Haman. It was too late. Haman had plenty. He announced all that he had the day before. He had fame, family, food, and finance. He had all that some work for every day to achieve. But that was not enough. He left out he had greed. God knows the price of covetousness. As wood feeds the fire, Haman's appetite was impossible to satisfy.
8 Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the bed whereon Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.
I do not know how long the king stayed in the garden, however, Esther was upon the bed. Esther had done all and her lying upon the bed indicated I am done or I am finished for the day. Haman is desperate. He is not cleverly thinking. Even at the moment of death, he did not turn to God. As one of the thieves who hung on the cross and never repented so was Haman. He wanted to live to do as he has always done. Haman is sentenced. Life for him is over. When we refuse to change, we will definitely come to an end. No one has time for anything that does not change.
9 And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who spoken good for the king, standeth in the house of Haman. Then the king said, Hang him thereon.
Mordecai dug his own grave, and or made his own bed, it was time to that place prepared for a man who refused to change.
10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified.
One day the wrath of God will subside. God will see his purpose fulfilled.
