Job 8

Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?

Bildad does not believe Job's response.

Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice? Bildad uses sarcasm to address Job.

If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;

Bildad brings up Job's children by implying they possibly died because of wrongdoings.

If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;

Bildad tells Job to seek God, still implying you have done wrong.

If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

Bildad suggests, it has been a minute Job; by now God would have forgiven you and blessed you if only you had admitted you have sinned.

Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.

Bildad is implying what he thinks, and he is wrong in how he rebukes Job.   Just because you sound like you know what is right does not mean you are right.

For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:

Bildad tells Job to search the scripture and see what the older people did in his situation.

(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)

We are young in comparison to those who walked before us.

10 Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?

If you seek the Old Testament you will find that you are wrong.

11 Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?

Nothing just happens.  Plants that grow need moisture.  Bildad is implying if you see weak plants, it is because an outward show of what was planted inwardly.  These unattractive plants had a reason to grow, because it was planted and now you see its results.

12 Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb.

13 So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:

He implies Job is a hypocrite.

14 Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.

15 He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.

16 He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden.

17 His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones.

18 If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.

19 Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.

Bildad is hitting hard.  No matter how the analogies are spoken, Bildad is wrong.

20 Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:

21 Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing.

22 They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.

These last few verses are intended to encourage Job to confess and be blessed.  Bildad started out speaking agianst Job.  His beginning and throughout his entire message he also spoke against God.

My Minute Song

Job 8

Job had a friend called Bildad

And he gave Job advice

The words he spoke weren’t sent by God

You betta know his words ain’t right

Bildad was the speaker

He had sharp words for Job

If you did not know any better

You might think God told-’em

Some people can come across

Like they know what ought to be said

You see Bildad tried real hard

To get inside Job’s head

Be careful when taking heed

From advice from Bildad

If God has not spoken

Your outcome gone' be sad

Get to know God’s Word

And learn if for yourself

Cause many people like Bro. Bildad

Just ain’t no good help.
