Job Chapter 2

Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord.

I do not know anyone who would not love hanging out with God once you get to know him.  There are people who search the scriptures just to pose arguments.  People sometimes why wonder why the devil shows up before God, knowing he is not going to do as he says.  Well, we do not have to search very far to see we as people may be doing the same.

And the Lord said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

God asks Satan where have you been?  Satan responds the same as he did in chapter 1.  This could be a lesson to learn, he is doing nothing new.  Roaming the earth soliciting and trying to influence mankind to disobey God.

And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

God speaks to Satan.  God described Job the same as in chapter one, except he tells Satan Job did well in that he held fast to his standards even though you, Satan, move me to allow you to test him.  This shows that Job grew to be a better man even in adversity.  The enemy knows now, Job is better today than yesterday.

And Satan answered the Lord, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.

The devil has studied his students.  In his class, the devil has concluded a man will sin if it means it will save his own skin.  To understand this I thought of "sin for skin".  The devil is not God.  He brags about what we allow.  If all man would resist him, he runs.  And when he runs he takes nothing from us.  He can't take what we think or how we may respond.

But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.

God made mankind.  God already told Satan that Job is a man that has proven himself to resist his tactics.  The devil tells God, I bet if you let me touch his physical body he will curse you to your face.  Again the devil is going off the experience of some men. The devil absolutely hates man.  He has no favor or confidence in man.  He hates those he employs and he hates those he seeks to employ. He blatantly tells God, man is not as good as you think.

And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

God allows Satan to test Job.  Why do I think God allowed this?  Certainly not because he is allowing Satan to tell him what to do, or to prove that he is stronger than Satan.  I believe that God allowed the enemy to test Job so that it will be a lesson to strengthen my faith or our faith in His Word.  If Job as one man can endure hardness, then, we have an example of how to handle life's hurdles when we are faced with them.  God took one man, Job, and allowed him to be one man tempted in comparison to what it may take a whole nation put together to experience during times of afflictions. Job suffered.  God uses one man to do a job that it may take many to do sometimes. God gave one man to be the richest and wisest man on earth named king Solomon, Samson being one man did the job of many men, Adam named the animal world and he was one man and Jesus was used as one man and you already know what he did.  God has nothing to prove to Satan, he is allowing this to eliminate any doubt that man can and will resist Satan if he chooses to.

So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

If only we would obey God as quickly as Satan did to harm us when given the opportunity.

And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.

Job was sick and he was not in a hospital.  Job suffered and he to attend to himself.  God knows the endurance of man.  We are stronger than we think.  We can endure hardship and maintain a consistent walk with God.

Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.

Is Job's wife responding in Job's best interest being that he has lost everything?  Now she is watching her husband suffer as he is suffering?  Or does she care anything for Job and think because he is not the man she once knew, she has no use for him?  Clearly, her faith in God is not like Job's.  It would be extremely hard to understand what is going on in her as his wife.  She lost children and many things and now she is seeing her husband sick and helpless.  However, we can view her as a woman who is suffering because of the test of Job.  How we respond when people are down may be a reflection of who we really are. All in all, she has seen her husband right living and she should not be surprised at how he is responding.

10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

Job had enough strength to respond and he responded kindly and with character.  Lord, reveal and allow me to come in contact with men and women who will respond as such.  Boaz sounded so much like God when he spoke to his workers until I had to reread the passage after hearing him speak, to see if I missed whether it was God who was speaking or Boaz.

11 Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.

12 And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.

13 So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.

Job was a friendly man and his friends traveled to see him.  When they viewed him from afar off, they were in disbelief.  For seven days they sat in silence.  They cried because of his condition. Job remained as he was.  Job too was quiet and remained faithful even when he was helpless in front of his friends.  Sometimes when we are around others, we sometimes solicit money or needs incognito or subtly.  Job, so far remains to be a man in control and a man who trusts in God in his ups and downs.

My Minute Song

Job 2

The enemy is up to the

 same old game

He’ll  use what he can

Even if its pain

In the midst of distress

He might use words

Whatever he throws

He means it to hurt

Job was a man

Who took  his test

Even on his back

He said nothing less

When his wife said

turn your back on God

Job told her

This pain ain’t that hard

He’s  the same God

When I’m up

He’s the same God

When I’m down

I wanna be as He is!

Firm! Steady! and Sound!

If He is still God

Then I am still His.
