26 But Job answered and said,
2 How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength?
3 How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom? and how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is?
4 To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee?
Job responds with six questions. Job as the son of a good father answers sarcastically to Bildad. Bildad painted a distasteful picture of the sovereignty of God and these six question shows Job disgust.
5 Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof.
If the words you spoke were all we had to live by, then we would drown. Anyone who lives under the words of Bildad has no chance to live.
6 Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.
God knows why things are separated from him. God does not use destruction without a cause.
7 He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
He created directions and he hung earth into space. He did not depend on anything that was made to create what he wanted to be made. His reason to create was that he wanted what he created.
8 He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.
He took water and formed clouds that are thick and the clouds do not break that he created to cover himself.
9 He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it.
Man is unable to see his throne and his throne is covered by clouds.
10 He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.
The waters are under his control. Day and night are ordered by him without the interference of water out of control. Job understood this before Moses put this in writing.
11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.
When God reproves, the pillars that hold heaven shakes.
12 He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.
Job announces how God divides the sea when needed, and he doesn't tolerate the behavior of the proud.
13 By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.
God made everything elaborate and his hands made the crooked serpent. Everything God made was made with purpose.
14 Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?
God has shown us parts of him. What we know of Him is little in comparison to what we don't know of him. Even thunder has a purpose when we hear it: who understands thunder but God?
Job 26 Sing or Say
Job 26
If I can for a moment explain
The amazing things about God
It will be my description
Which is only a tiny start
There is nothing
His eyes can’t see
He put things in the order
He wanted them to be
Heaven and earth
Are controlled by him
Every idle word spoken
Will be condemned
So many lives have been taken
Then we try to hide our wrong
The heavens will declare it
Nothing is hidden under the sun.
All I can say is
I stand in awe of God
The little bit I said,
came from my heart
