28 Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it.
Silver is found in a mine and there is a place to refine gold. We search for silver and gold because we hold these minerals in high regard.
2 Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.
Iron comes from the earth and brass is formed and melted from stones.
3 He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.
Miners finally discover what they are searching for. They searched in deadly places and found what they hoped they would find.
4 The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.
The place they have found is far from people; they do what must be done to collect the valued stones.
5 As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.
The earth or ground produces food. Far beneath the ground is heat as of fire.
6 The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold.
The miners find sapphires and dust of gold.
7 There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not seen:
8 The lion's whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.
There is a place where no birds, vultures, or lions roam or fly. Perhaps these places do not provide food and they steer away because it would be time wasted.
An eagle and vulture are known to see what the human eye cannot find. Many times people study birds to discover what they see. However, these keen-eyed birds cannot lead them to all places. These birds do not travel these dark areas. God limited how much a bird can do. However, man is able to search the darkest areas of the earth to discover what is of great value. God gave man authority over all the earth; even into the depts of the earth and sea.
9 He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.
10 He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.
11 He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.
One way of looking at what miners do is: We will spend precious time finding silver and gold. There is no limit to how much we will spend to find riches. We think if only we can find enough money, we will find the meaning of life. Job shows us how we search for minerals of wealth. Job tells us that where it is even animals don't bother with seeking it. Birds and other animals enjoy the pleasure of flying, roaming, and finding different foods. Jesus says learn from the ant. An ant is the smallest of all living things and yet he is smarter or he uses his time wisely.
Another way of viewing these verses is: God wants man to know the capabilities he has. A man may not be able to see a keen as a bird, but man is able to go into the unseen and risk his life looking for fine minerals. There is no limitation of what a man can do if he sets his mind to it. When it comes to finding wealth, man's limitation is not limited.
12 But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?
We seek wealth. But where is wisdom? Where is understanding?
13 Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
God has the wisdom that cannot be found in or on earth. Man does not know the price of wisdom cost.
14 The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.
15 It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
16 It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
17 The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.
18 No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.
19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
All the jewels on earth cannot be enough to purchase wisdom.
20 Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
21 Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.
Not even the keenest bird's eye can spot wisdom.
22 Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.
Eyes have not seen but destruction and death say we heard of it with our ears.
23 God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.
God knows where wisdom is and he knows where it is positioned.
24 For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;
Who can see the entire earth?
25 To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.
Who can weigh the winds and waters?
26 When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
Who instructs rain and lightning?
27 Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.
God answered all questions by knowing all things. There is nothing he doesn't know.
28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is
wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
Fear God. God knows everything. And to show that you fear him depart or separate yourselves from evil.

Job 28
Men search for silver
Men search for gold
Hoping to discover
What only God knows
Man, unlike the eagle
Digs in the unknown
All the creatures of earth
Obey the God of the throne
We waste so much
of our precious time
Looking for treasure
And cold dark mines
We won’t be satisfied
When we do all these things
That life’s hidden treasures
Only God’s Word can bring
Instead of searching for wealth
That will never satisfy
God gives of wisdom
And understanding supplied
The search is over
The True treasure’s found
Look up and seek Him
Your answer’s above the ground
