Job 22

22 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

Eliphaz accuses Job.

Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?

We value smart men.  Does God brag or feel good if a smart man wants him to be on his team?  Is God impress that important people seek him?

Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?

Is God impressed with you Job?  Do you feel God benefits from having you as a servant?

Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?

Is God afraid of you Job?  Will He judge you as he will others?  Is God going to favor in judgment you because of who you are?

Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?

Look at your punishment.  It is a measure of your iniquities.

For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.

You have stolen or made money from your brother for nothing.  You also took clothing from the naked.  If the naked was working to provide clothing, you took it before he could put the clothes on.

Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.

You saw people that were thirsty and hungry and you had plenty and you did not provide for them.

But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.

You honored those who already had.  You made the rich, richer.

Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

You did not help the widows and you neglected children that had no fathers.

10 Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;

That is why you are suffering.

11 Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.

You live in darkness and you are drowning in punishment.

12 Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!

God is the ruler and sits in the highest seat.

13 And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?

You question God's judgment because you say he cannot see me because the clouds block his view.

14 Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.

God is pacing because too many clouds are blocking his view.

15 Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?

Have you researched the past concerning wicked people?

16 Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:

Those wicked people God destroyed before your time.

17 Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?

Those wicked people instructed God to go away.  We do not need you.

18 Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

He still blessed them even after they told him they did need him.  You see I live a life far from wicked people.  They are nowhere close to me.

19 The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.

The righteous see the bad that happens to wicked people and they think it is extremely funny.

20 Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.

Because we do right, we still have our stuff.  What the wicked left behind we don't need it and fire burned up all they left behind.

21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.

Go to God and get to know him so that you can have peace. goodness will follow you.

22 Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.

Study the Word and hide it in your heart.

23 If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.

Repent and God will build you up and you will put iniquity from among you.

24 Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

Then you will have so much until it will be as the dust of the ground.

25 Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.

God will insure you and you will be rich.

26 For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.

God will be well pleased with you and then you can look up to God and not be ashamed.

27 Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.

Then God will listen to your prayers and he will bless you so that you can pay those you owe.

28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

You will have what you say and it will come to pass.

29 When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.

You will be able to testify and others will be blessed from your testimony.

30 He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.

Those who have been left on the island will be brought back to the mainland.  All this will be because God honors you because you admitted you were wrong and you have a pure heart.

Sing or Say

Eliphaz could
not get enough

He spoke to Job

really rough.

He accuses Job

Of all that’s bad

He said God took away

What you once had.

If only you

 will admit you’re wrong

Tell God

 what you have done.

You’re guilty

 of so many sins

That is why

 you just can’t win.

All you gotta do
is repent

God will give

more than you can spend

Unless you

 take all my advice

The trouble you’re

in is your best life.
