Job 29

29 Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,

Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;

Months ago Job remembers when things were different.

When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

God light led me through dark times.

As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;

I honored God in the days of my youth.

When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

I was older and had children and God was still my focus.

When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;

I had food I loved and it was tasty.

When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!

When I drove to the city and parked in my own parking space.

The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.

The young ran and peeped at me and the aged stood and gave honor when they saw me.

The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.

The honorable men stop talking when I walked in the room.

10 The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.

People respected me when I came around.

11 When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:

When people heard of me they said awesome things.  When they saw me it proved they were people of integrity.

12 Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.

The honored me because I helped the poor, and I did not ignore the fatherless.

13 The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

When those who were near death heard I was near they blessed me and widows were glad and I caused them to sing a new tune.

14 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.

I love God and it was shown.

15 I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.

I helped everybody.

16 I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.

I helped the poor children who had no father.

17 And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.

I hated the ways of wicked people.

18 Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.

I had it made and wanted to die at a good age.

19 My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.

I made good of my life and I had a good name.

I was like a tree planted by the river.

20 My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.

I was a healthy man and I took good care of myself.

21 Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.

People listened to me when I spoke.

22 After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.

The argurments ceased when I gave the answer and all knew that I had a solution.

23 And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

People waited for me and applauded for me knowing I was coming.

24 If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.

When I spoke to them I was glad and they knew I had a sense of humor.

25 I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.

I was an ambassador.  Job knew the state of his community.

Job was as Jesus.  He laid down his comfort to support those in need.  When people knew Job would be in charge they rejoiced.

Job was not a wicked man.  He remembers what he did.  His accusers witnessed and knew what Job was saying was true.

Job is a black man's dream.  He was different and he loved all people.

Sing or Say

Job 29

To have a leader like Job

You had to care

Job a man of justice

All enemies beware

Nobody felt all alone

Because when Job

Spoke up

All tears were gone

What would it be like

To know a man like Job

Everyone mattered

From the young to the old

Job reminds me

Of Jesus Christ

A man of his word

Who treated everyone right

Lord let me remind you

Of a man named Job

A beacon of light

In a world that is cold.
