JOB 32

Job 32:1-22 (KJV) 1 So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he [was] righteous in his own eyes.

Job spoke and defended his case.  Job’s three friends were tired and frustrated in trying to get Job to admit he was wrong.

2 Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.

A new man named Elihu spoke up and he was extremely angry because Job held fast to his righteousness.

3 Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and [yet] had condemned Job.

Elihu was also angry because  Job’s three friends did not win the argument to condemn Job.

4 Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they [were] elder than he.

Elihu was quiet and did not speak with respect to the older people. He thought he was being respectful.

5 When Elihu saw that [there was] no answer in the mouth of [these] three men, then his wrath was kindled.

Elihu thought and was very angry with everybody that had spoken before him.

6 And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I [am] young, and ye [are] very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion.

Elihu stated that he was very young and he thought that he will allow the older people to speak first before he gave his opinion.

7 I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

Elihu said that he thought that the older people should speak first because he thought they had the wisdom and the younger should just sit back and learn from them.

8 But [there is] a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

Elihu said God has given every man a spirit inside of him and in that spirit God is able to speak to man.

9 Great men are not [always] wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.

Elihu stated that now he understands just because you’re old does not mean that you know what you’re talking about.

10 Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion.

Elihu said listen to me and I want to give you my opinion.

11 Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, whilst ye searched out what to say.

Elihu went on to say I listened to you, waiting for reasons and I watched while you figure out what you wanted to say.

12 Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, [there was] none of you that convinced Job, [or] that answered his words:

While listening and watching you talk to Job, none of you convinced Job that he was wrong.

13 Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusteth him down, not man.

If you all knew what you were talking about you would’ve found out that Job was wrong and God put him in the position that he’s in.

14 Now he hath not directed [his] words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.

When Job did speak he did not direct his words against me and I will not use any of your words to declare him wrong.

15 They were amazed, they answered no more: they left off speaking.

Job's three friends were amazed at  Elihu‘s speech and did not say another word.

16 When I had waited, (for they spake not, but stood still, [and] answered no more;)

All eyes and ears were on Elihu.

17 [I said], I will answer also my part, I also will shew mine opinion.

Elihu began speaking.

18 For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me.

He said I am full and I’m doing all I can not speak out because the spirit inside me told me to hold my peace.

19 Behold, my belly [is] as wine [which] hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.

I am about to burst like a bottle of wine, I have a lot to say.

20 I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.

I’m going to go on and tell you what I think.  I will open my mouth and I will feel better about myself when I’m done speaking.

21 Let me not, I pray you, accept any man’s person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man.

I don’t need a title and neither will I give a reference to a title that you may be accustom to.

22 For I know not to give flattering titles; [in so doing] my maker would soon take me away.

Titles make men feel important. And when we use or give titles to men, God demotes the person who uses them.
