Psalm 60

I searched to find what caused David to write this song.  I could not find what caused him to write these lyrics, but I do know that God is not pleased when we do not follow His instructions as any good father would do.  Whatever caused David to notice the defeat of his army, he knew it was because something was not right.  When Israel sinned, Israel did not win the war.
When we turn away from what is right we will receive the consequences of wrong behavior.  When we acknowledge God we should be aware of the consequences of following directions and the consequences of not follow directions.  When a student knows the results of not submitting an assignment, he or she is fully aware of what they need to do to correct his or her wrong.
The sad part of ignoring the consequences of God's Word, we waste time trying to figure out why things are the way they are.  God gave clear instructions in the garden.  Adam knew the consequences, but he failed to believe them.  We are the same as Adam.  We do wrong because we don't fear God.

It is good to know when God is not pleased.  We should walk so close to Him until we recognize He is not speaking, giving revelation of His Word, or noticing that our lives are falling apart.  A school that ignores the signs of failing students, is a school where it is a guarantee the principal, who is in charge is the reason the school is in trouble.  The bus driver who has taken a wrong turn is the reason the children on the bus are not on the schedule.
Although I am not sure of what event took place and David wrote this song, it is clear that the lesson to learn is to follow directions all the time.

David recognizes the wrong done by Israel.  David encourages us in knowing God will give us strength when we reverence Him for being Who He Is.

Psalms 60:1-12 (KJV) 1 [[To the chief Musician upon Shushaneduth, Michtam of David, to teach; when he strove with Aramnaharaim and with Aramzobah, when Joab returned and smote of Edom in the valley of salt twelve thousand.]] O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased; O turn thyself to us again.

Somewhere in David’s life, he sought God.  During the time of war or somewhere in between, David spoke these words.  It could have been how David felt or David knew that disobedience of Israel has caused David to feel God was not in the midst of them.  David is asking God to reveal His presence to Israel.  When we know of sin, God knows of the same sin.  When we know sin in our families we must not hide them from God.  We can talk to God about how to handle the wrong that has been committed.  Sin shames families.  We can come boldly before God and admit to God I know of sin in my house and I want to know how to deal with it.  Bring everything into the open and watch God, who is full of mercy show you how to handle the things that are too heavy for you.  He knows that we need support or helps us tell the truth.  God wants what bothers us.

2 Thou hast made the earth to tremble; thou hast broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.

When the earth knows sin is present, it shakes.   Earth/ground was made for the glory of God.  Even what God gave us as protection is shaking.   The sand that surrounds the ocean is thinning.  The earth itself knows when God is unhappy with the behavior of His people.

3 Thou hast showed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment.

When we do what is wrong, things in life get complicated.  Simple things become complicated.  God has allowed us to create our own medicine.  When man seeks man's wisdom for the good of mankind, it produces a negative effect and does no one any good.

4 Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.

But to those who seek Him,  He makes His Word as a banner.    He wants His people who will humble themselves to see the truth in the midst of chaos.  Elisha prayed and asked God to reveal what he saw so that his servant could see the banner of the host of angels he could see but his servant could not.  When we can see, pray for the people who cannot see but show reverence for God’s Word.

5 That thy beloved may be delivered; save [with] thy right hand, and hear me.

That your favorite may be delivered by your right hand.  In your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

6 God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.

7 Gilead [is] mine, and Manasseh [is] mine; Ephraim also [is] the strength of mine head; Judah [is] my lawgiver; 8 Moab [is] my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph thou because of me.

David remembers each name and how they fit into making God's House and World Order complete.  Gilead, Manasseh, Ephraim, and Judah showed His Honor.  Moab and Edom showed how they dishonored God.  Philistia was reminded to make sure they knew if they gained any praise, the praise they received was to be directed back to God.

9 Who will bring me [into] the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?

David asked God what about us, who is hoot to help us?  If you don’t show us the way, who will?

10 [Wilt] not thou, O God, [which] hadst cast us off? and [thou], O God, [which] didst not go out with our armies?

Will you go with us now even though You did not go with us previously?

11 Give us help from trouble: for vain [is] the help of man.

David tells the truth of his heart.  David says to ask men for help is vain.   David is the government and who does the government go to for help?

12 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he [it is that] shall tread down our enemies.

David concludes God will help us!  I asked questions and I leave with the answer.  God will help us!!!!!
