51 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according to unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

Read- 2 Samuel 11-12

Tansgressions-  had many wives, took another man's wife, plotted to cover his sin, killed the husband (murdered the man by his word as king) David was a king and plotted.  many sins.  lying framed Uriah,

how many sins do we commit to ultimately fulfill or evil deeds?

1.  you are king

2.  you had the right to get more

3.  you killed an innocent man

4.  you caused your family unnecessary turmoil

5.  you did it secretly

6.  you scorned the lord

7.  sick child and died

mercy-compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm

Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

David wants from god what others need from us when they sin against us.

iniquity- a knew better

sin- I went against your word

For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

acknowledge- admit, recognize, confirm, take ownership

Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

Being king no one could bring David to court legally.  Many perhaps thought David was as guilty as he was charging himself.  David knew if no one else thought he was wrong, he knew God did.

Behold, I was shapened in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

We are all sinners from birth.  David understood sin's nature.  He knew Adam brought sin into this world and horrible that was.

Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

You want what is right from the inside and the outside will show itself as the inside.  If my heart is right, my actions will show it.

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Purge- rid, remove

David tells God what detergent is needed to clean him.  It must have been known to drive dirt away.

Hyssop- a herb that heals I know I will be clean.  Remove me, ALL of me, and I will be clean, wash me and I will be spotless

Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

TAKE AWAY MY DEPRESSION.  I am deaf!  It is hard when you know God is speaking but you cannot hear Him.

The hardest part of my body is my bones.  David said my frame is broken; I am nothing without you.  All though you see me outside, I am torn up. I am hurt to my bone!  Let me hear your music and I will dance again.

Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

When you look at me don't look at what I have done.  Give me another chance at doing it right.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Give me a brand new heart.  renew-resume (an activity) after an interruption. give me the right behavior inside me.

11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

Don't throw me aside.  I do not want to be as King Saul.  What is the difference between David and Saul?

12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.  A RIGHT SPIRIT WITHOUT CHARGE.

There is joy in salvation.  I had it once before.  I want to be glad again Lord.  Lift me up and help me to represent you well.

13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

I will take my testimony and teach others not to do as I did.  and David did through song.

14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

David did not have to ask God to forgive him because he was king.  David killed thousands.  But David knew in his heart he was wrong.  this was murder.  He asked God to forgive him for his heart was wrong.  David kept his word.  He did not have to, but David kept his word to teach us and to sing the songs he wrote.

15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

Put a praise in my mouth Lord.  I cannot write the song with your lyrics.  put your lyrics in my mouth.  I will write, I will give you the credit!

16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.

If I could pay you off, you know I have the money in the bank to do it. But I know better.  I want what I cannot buy.

17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

God wants a changed heart.  He wants that spirit of lust to be destroyed otherwise, I will do it again.  I feel guilty for what I did and I don't want to do this again.

18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.

Do me good and surround me with your protection.

19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.

Then I can start over and do it right you will take pleasure in what I  give.
