Psalm 77
77 I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me.
God heard "my" voice.
2 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted.
I was hurting all day and all night. Stress, pain, being overwhelmed, upset, bothered are ways we feel when we become sore. It is good to know that in these times we can go to God. Although a daily walk with God when all is well is also a good time to share your good times with Him. It is good to seek God in the day of trouble, so many leave God out.
3 I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah.
I filed my complaint to God.
4 Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
God did not let me fall asleep. I was in so much pain, I could not speak.
5 I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times.
I remembered God and what He did long ago.
6 I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search.
I thought deep and hard and remembered a song I wrote a long time ago.
7 Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more?
Will God throw us away and not show us favor?
8 Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise fail for evermore?
Is God clean gone and will not return? Does He keep His Word?
9 Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah.
More question of doubt?
10 And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.
To question God and His promises? Hmmm, this is the problem. I have to think about what I know about God. I know He is good and this is the right thing I should be saying to myself when I am in trouble. I am being renewed at this very moment. I changed my behavior by changing what I thought about God!
11 I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.
I am coming to myself. God is good.
12 I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.
Forget me! Remember the goodness of God!!!!
13 Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?
Now I have to change my tune. God is great!!!!
14 Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.
God is does wonders and gives strength to His own.
15 Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.
You redeemed once and You can redeem again.
16 The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid: the depths also were troubled.
The waters were afraid of your presence and also the deep!
17 The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: thine arrows also went abroad.
The earth let the entire world know, You were at hand.
18 The voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: the lightnings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook.
The earth saw a difference when You showed up!
19 Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known.
You separated the waters and made a path, lead the children on dry ground and cover your footsteps by closing waters when they were led to safety.
20 Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
You walk before Your people and Your people followed you with Moses and Aaron in the lead. You walked first and the people knew to follow you.
