PSALM 102
102 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and let my cry come unto thee.
2 Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.
3 For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned as an hearth.
4 My heart is smitten, and withered like grass; so that I forget to eat my bread.
5 By reason of the voice of my groaning my bones cleave to my skin.
6 I am like a pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the desert.
7 I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top.
8 Mine enemies reproach me all the day; and they that are mad against me are sworn against me.
9 For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping.
When the church refuses to follow God's protection plan, there is no other way to get things done. The people of God turned to another god or other gods and they were left to suffer drastically. When we choose to disobey God we sign up to hurt ourselves. After being in debt, sick, and treated unfairly, the people who knew God, knew that their only hope was to go back to their Help. Some did not return because of embarrassment, some died, some became complacent, some settled in stayed in the pagan land, and served God there.
To hear the church cry is the saddest sound man will ever hear. The church is God's solution for carrying out God's plan of the instructions given to Jesus our Lord. The only way to avoid the tears the people of God shed long ago is to walk slowly with the Word of God and follow His steps. If we do otherwise we will surely cry. How many times have we married the wrong person, bought the wrong property, made bad choices in business, and so on? The Word of God answers all things. Read slowly and God will have no need to wipe unnecessary tears, but He will if He has to.
10 Because of thine indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast lifted me up, and cast me down.
11 My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass.
When we make choices and the penalty causes us to be cut short of what we could have had, it can be saddening. But the writer expresses the joy he has from the inside. Like Moses said, I won't see what you will see, but I know God, and He will bring His people to an expected end.
12 But thou, O Lord, shall endure for ever; and thy remembrance unto all generations.
Lord, Your Word will last forever. You will be known in every generation.
13 Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.
There will be people who will see your mercy. Your anger does have a cut-off time.
14 For thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof.
Your people love your dwelling place and favor the spot You picked to call your home. Your Word is Your dwelling place.
15 So the heathen shall fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth thy glory.
Those who didn't believe and kings will fear You. The gentiles will come to know and leaders everywhere will fear You because of Your excellent way of caring for Your people.
16 When the Lord shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory.
17 He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer.
When Jesus completes His assignment, He will appear and the whole world will know. He will not have respect of person. The world will know what it means to be God lead. Righteousness will introduce Himself to earth.
18 This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the Lord.
A copy of what I am saying will reach future generations. They will know us and they too will praise the Lord.
19 For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the Lord behold the earth;
God looks, God gazes at His people from Heaven; He see everything on earth.
20 To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death;
God also hears how people are being treated; He not only hears, He will pay attention and send relief because of what He hears in what man needs.
21 To declare the name of the Lord in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem;
God's name is Help, and He will send a Savior to help us. Praise will be heard wherever God dwells. I swore this will happen.
22 When the people are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.
When we seek God, we will be glad we did.
23 He weakened my strength in the way; he shortened my days.
24 I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations.
I feel good knowing God will keep His Word even if I will not make the journey. God will make sure He is there even if I am not.
The glimpse or view of what is being prophesied made the writer glad to express that God will be God and he will have someone who will carry out His plan.
25 Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.
26 They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:
27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.
28 The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee.
You made heaven and earth. Both will change. You will make all things new and You will keep the promise you made to Abraham. You will establish your seed that came through those who were called Your people. Your seed will finally meet the God who made everything.
