Psalm 132

132 Lord, remember David, and all his afflictions:

David is writing and he is the subject of his own writing as he speaks to God.

How he sware unto the Lord, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;

When David was in trouble, he made a promise to God;

Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;

David was not satisfied in just coming home to his own home and knowing that there was not a house built for the Lord.  David's passion became, I want to build God a house.

I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids,

Until I find out a place for the Lord, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.

David said I will not rest until I build a place for God.  It did not seem right to receive from God and then not give God back anything.

Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood.

David expresses that he heard about the ark of the covenant.  David perhaps thought that this was too small and wanted God to have a place better than his.

We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool.

David wanted a place that he could go into as well as others.  He wanted God to have a place called God's.

Arise, O Lord, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.

David knew God heard him.  He asked God to move into a place that he wanted to prepare for Him.

Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.

David visualized how he wanted the priest's attire.  David also wanted the people of God to be as happy as he was because he saw how God's house would be a place for people to gather to meet with God.  David knew God was not selfish and would do for others the same as He had done for David himself.

10 For thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed.

David wanted God's approval on what he wanted to do in building Him a house.

11 The Lord hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

God heard David and communed with David.  He promised David he would build him, David a house.  What David wanted for God, God made happen for David.

12 If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.

God had already blessed David.  Now God is speaking of blessing David's children.  How can this be?  If we want to do something for someone and they in return want to do more for you, is mind-boggling.  David is offering God a place and God is telling David, I want to bless you more.

13 For the Lord hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.

For the Lord has chosen a special place for His people now called His church.  He is letting David know, that what I want to do for you is much greater than what you want to do for me.  David wanted to express his love toward God and build Him a house.  God in return is giving David a name that will last throughout eternity.

14 This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

God loved David so much until He told David I desire to bless you and I am giving you my word. Through David God will bless the world.  God gave David more than he could ask or think.  God gave David a savior and this Savior blessed the entire world.

15 I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.

I am giving you David a blessing and I will bless the blessing I am giving you.  The church is what God is speaking of.  The Word of God will live in people.  These people will be dedicated to me, the Father, and walk-in ways that will draw others to Him, (God).

16 I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

Inside my church will be priests, and they will hear from me.  The saints that listen to the Word of God through the priests will be glad when they hear me speak as God, through ordinary men.

17 There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.

Jesus will be the strength or horn that came through the loins of David.  Jesus will be the lamp that will give light to all who come to Him.

18 His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.

God told David, I will take care of any enemies that will try to hinder the promise I am making you.  The crown that I will place upon the head of the anointed one Jesus will never die.  His crown will produce every single day.  Jesus will influence people to be drawn to the Father forever.  Someone will always find Him and seek the ways of our Father.
