Proverbs 15
15 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
What is a soft answer? An answer that is spoken with truth and void of anger: but words that are angered given back to an angry person is explosive. Defuse an argument.
2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
Using correct knowledge at the right time is wisdom: but the fool speaks without common sense.
3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
God sees everything all the time, both good and evil.
4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.
A healthy tongue provides to others words that produce life: a person who knowingly says what is not good breaks the spirit of those who listens to him.
5 A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
A person who refuses to listen to the right instructions hates his parent's guidance: but a son who listens to his parent plans to do what is right.
6 In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
In God's Word is much treasure: In a house, businesses, income will be trouble.
7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.
The words of the wise speak the Word of God: but anybody speaking otherwise, is speaking foolishness.
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
Religion giving is not accepted by God: but those who do right and also give is God's delight.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
Doing or giving things to look like you are giving to God is hated by God. Religion is an insult to God. God loves gifts given by/ through love.
10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.
Anyone who hates correction and reproof will die.
11 Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?
God sees hell and destructions: God sees our motives that come from our hearts.
12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.
People who want to do things their way hate instructions and they will avoid the Word of God.
13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
People who are happy show it on their face: if the heart is sad the spirit is broken.
14 The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.
15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.
A man without God is miserable, full of hard times, and has and does no good thing: but a person who loves God's Word has a good time continuously if he does what the Word says.
16 Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.
17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
Better to eat vegetable in a happy home, than to be able to afford a steak in a house of hatred.
18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
A man who lacks wisdom starts trouble: he that is not quick to get angry is easy to get along with.
19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.
A lazy man is surrounded by things that will keep people away from him: but the righteous person invites people to him.
20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
Parents are happy when children do right. Parents are not happy when the children disobey God's Word.
21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.
Anyone who lives outside of God's Word wastes time: but a man who obeys God is a good man.
22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
Get advice from people who can steer you in the right direction.
23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
You can tell when someone is happy by the way he talks: the right word given at the right time is priceless.
24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
Seek God's from above and you will never worry about going to hell.
25 The Lord will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.
Proud people will be removed: People who listen will be firmly fixed by God.
26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.
God hates the thoughts of evil people: our thoughts are heard by our words and when we sound like God it is pleasant to the ears.
27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
Greed brings trouble: God hates gifts that have been stolen.
28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
Think before you speak: only fools blurt out and pay no attention to the hearer of the foolish words from his mouth.
29 The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
God hears those who stay near Him when they pray: God's ears are far away from those who do wrong and won't stop.
30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.
When the Word of God is revealed we are made glad: good words heal.
31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
Wise people love to hang around wise people and they love to be corrected.
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
Anyone who refuses to listen to the Word of God chooses damnation: but those who want to learn and make the right choices hear God's Word.
33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
