Proverbs 25

25 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

It was important to Hezekiah to have the proverbs of Solomon written by men who were on his staff.  A good leader wants what God has to say.

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

God knows how to conceal.  God conceals our sins: but the kings have the authority to investigate matters that need to be revealed.

God is pleased when the leader seeks Him in how to lead people.

The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

We do not have time to measure the heavens or earth and how deep it is, and we do well to obey the king rather than search his mind to know all he has in it.

Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

Remove what is keeping the silver from shinning and you will see clearly how to make the right decisions.

Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

Remove the wrong that is present in leadership then the people will be led in the right way.

Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

Don't try to be seen.

For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

Wait for your turn.

Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

Take your time when confronting a problem with your neighbor.

Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:

Talk to the person you have the problem with to solve the problem between you.

10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

Be slow to confront, go to the person you have a problem with, if you do not follow these instructions you may have a negative name in your community.

11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

The right words spoken are like a breath of fresh air.

12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

A person who can be corrected is priceless.

13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

The right amount of water in harvest time saved from the winter snow will melt and water the grounds.

Giving a word at the right time is refreshing just like a good cup of hot tea in the winter mornings.

14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

Anyone who brags about something that God did not give him is a noisemaker only.

15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

Be slow to act and when you do, say what Jesus will say.

16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

Ask God for your daily bread.  Eat enough of the Word of God every day to live and understand it.

17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

Keep your own house organized.  You do not have time to be a busy body.  People will hate to see you coming if you come to their home too much.

18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

A word that is untrue tears people apart.

19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

God will not permit a man who does not study His Word to carry His message.

20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

Singing a happy song when a person is feeling bad is annoying.

21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

Treat your enemy well, God will return the favor to you.

23 The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

Sometimes a look can stop the sin from starting.

24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

No matter how nice and big your house is, if the people who live there keep up confusion, it is better to live outside in a corner in the elements.  Life without peace is chaos.

25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

Just like a good ol' glass of ice water on a hot day, so it is when someone gives you some good news!  Jesus came all the way from Heaven to give us the Good News!

26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

The wicked love to see a righteous person fall into sin.  People will be hesitant to drink from you as a fountain because of what they know about you.

27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

1. Too much of a good thing is not good.  Reading too many scriptures from several books of the bible at one time is too much to comprehend a good meaning.  Our daily bread is what we can eat and digest. The Word of God is designed to be read from left to right. Once you understand how to read it that way, you will be able to understand how to pull lessons out properly.  The Word must be read slowly and carefully.

2.  We must not expect too many praises!  Expecting people to brag on us is not healthy.  Do not expect glory from people, because The God of glory gives glory.  If God is not bragging on you, people who do are just making a loud noise.

28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

We need  God to help us with self-control.  We are not able to control ourselves by ourselves.  If we refuse to seek help, we will be a wreck both inside and out.
