Isaiah 24

Isaiah 24:1-23 (KJV)

1 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.

If anyone can destroy the earth, it will be the Lord.

2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.

No one will be left out. All of the people are as one under God's control or under God's wrath.  The big toe will finally realize it was no more powerful than one of the eyelashes.

3 The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word.

When the wrath of God is poured out, the earth will be as rubbish.

4 The earth mourneth [and] fadeth away, the world languisheth [and] fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.

The sea spoke in chapter 23, today the earth mourns, ( nature was made to praise God) and leaves little by little or gradually grows faint and disappear, the arrogant people grow weaker and weaker.

5 The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.

The earth will not last because of sin.  The earth was made for seeds, we were made of dust and we were supposed to live and when we die we will turn into dust again.  But with so much blood on the earth, the earth is sick.  Many people are wounded and bleed and do not die; we bleed and the earth knows the difference between dust and blood.

Even every child is unknown to the earth.   The earth testifies against death unknown.  There is so many premature death on the earth until the earth says, I can't handle it.  Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost; just as it cannot and will not stay in a house who will not submit to God so it is with the sins in the earth.

6 Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.

This is why the earth will be destroyed.  Sin is the reason we are barren; because we waste time we will be treated as such.  If an engineer creates a masterpiece and it does not function as he saw fit, he works entirely to make it work, but if he is wise, he disposes of it.

7 The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh.

The grapevine cries and the people who desire the wine are disappointed.

8 The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth.

The joy of music fades.

9 They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.

The wine will not make merry; the grapes that made the wine is bitter tasting.

10 The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in.

The people who tried to figure things out stopped searching: everyone is in his own house with no one visiting.

11 [There is] a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.

What used to make us happy is no more.  There is no joy heard, nothing made us happy.   (mirth: amusement)

12 In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

The people are hopeless and what once protected them is destroyed.

13 When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, [there shall be] as the shaking of an olive tree, [and] as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.

When God's wrath hits the earth, it will be very little left afterward.

14 They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea.

When the people of God see how he will bring correction, the people will rejoice.

15 Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, [even] the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea.

If persecution comes, glorify God.  He is letting us know He will hear us if we cry out even under pressure.

16 From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, [even] glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.

Although Isaiah heard the joy of the saints, he states that they are after him and he sees his own death.  Sometimes when you see the good, there will be those who will plot to destroy you for speaking out.

17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, [are] upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.

Isaiah saw what was happening to him and he yet cries out for the good of the earth to change.  Even knowing he will die by those who refuse to change, he still cried for people to repent.

18 And it shall come to pass, [that] he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.

There is no place to hide.  If you think of a plan, it will not work.  God's wrath is against the ungodly.

19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.

God cleared the earth and He made the earth clean from the rubbish.

20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.

God will destroy those who commit sin.

21 And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones [that are] on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.

God will destroy bad leaders.

22 And they shall be gathered together, [as] prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.

God will incarcerate leaders for a long time.

23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

The moon shall be off schedule, the sun will hide its beam.  When Jesus will rule from Mount Zion as king and priest in Jerusalem.  He will not be alone, with him will be those who walked with Him before the wrath of God hit the earth.
