Isaiah 34
Isaiah 34:1-17 (KJV)
1 Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it.
This message is to those who heard the day Isaiah spoke, and God was speaking to us today. This is a fresh Word from God that was spoken as prophesy throughout eternity.
God spoke to all people everywhere and he spoke to everything that the earth produced.
2 For the indignation of the LORD [is] upon all nations, and [his] fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter.
God is annoyed with the world. God destroyed the armies of men. This is absolutely a time that is yet to come. All believers will present with God and the world as we know it will be left to the wrath of God.
3 Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood.
God will take count of all the dead bodies the earth has in it.
4 And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling [fig] from the fig tree.
There will be no need for the sun and the other host of the heavens or skies. The heavens will fade like like a dead leaf.
5 For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.
My sword will be clean: I will use it upon Edom.
Who is Edom? Edom represents the descendants of Esau. Esau cast his inheritance to the side for a moment of gratifying his flesh when he was hungry. Jacob and Esau were brothers. Esau told Jacob to give him something to eat and by his own mouth he gave up what he had a right to satisfy his desire. After realizing what he had done, he became angry and wanted to kill his brother. Esau wanted as we do today, he wanted to disregard God's Word and still get the good that God promised. (Genesis 25).
Today we live as Edom or Esau. We care nothing at the time for God's Word and get angry when we do not get God's results in our lives.
This behavior angers God and it has caused Him to bring to an end to the evil work of man.
6 The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, [and] with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.
7 And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.
8 For [it is] the day of the LORD'S vengeance, [and] the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.
9 And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.
10 It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.
11 But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness.
12 They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none [shall be] there, and all her princes shall be nothing.
13 And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons, [and] a court for owls.
14 The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.
15 There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate.
Verses 6-15 give us details of how life will no longer be as we know it. There will be no ranking of positions and what was made for man will be given to wild birds and wild beasts. Some commentators speak that Isaiah is using poetic language to describe how God will destroy the dynasty of what man created on his own. I choose to state that God is not addressing sin anymore by bringing correction; He is finally closing the business of putting up with man in his folly. It is a good company closing its doors. God gave us His Word and His Word is who He is.
It is our job to study His Word and carry out His orders. When we refuse to do as instructed we will be destroyed. In these verses, God gives specific details of everything that He will use to carry out what is being spoken of by Isaiah 34. This prophecy has not been fulfilled as of today. I pray daily that I am counted worthy to escape what will be the ultimate fate of men in his disobedience toward the Word of God.
16 Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.
We are encouraged to seek God's Word to make sure what we think is accurate according to what He said and is saying. A loving God gives us detailed instructions to avoid having to be punished for simply not listening to Him. Lord help us to return back to what You said you will do so that we can escape Your wrath.
17 And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.
God has already put this into His will. If we choose not to obey we will have no one to blame but ourselves. Let's stay in the Word of God and obey. He promised if we stay in His Word we will not see this day.
