Isaiah 64
Isaiah 64:1-12 (KJV)
1 Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,
The prayer continues: Oh if You would tear open the heavens, and come to us, then the mountains of our lives would melt away from us!
2 As [when] the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, [that] the nations may tremble at thy presence!
Remove our problems like a fire that melts, like a fire that boils, to show our enemies that You are our God! Yes! that would teach our enemies to mess with us!
3 When thou didst terrible things [which] we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.
We have seen Your Power before. We have seen the mountains quake when You showed up!
4 For since the beginning of the world [men] have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, [what] he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.
There is no power like Yours. No one from the beginning of time has done what You only have done.
5 Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, [those that] remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art wroth; for we have sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.
You recognize those who follow You and You always do good toward them. But, Lord we have not obeyed You and we would not stop sinning and still, you want to save us although you are angry at what we do!
6 But we are all as an unclean [thing], and all our righteousnesses [are] as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
We are all over the place like a leaf disconnected from its tree; we do what we think is right without checking Your Word only to find out that what we do in our own thoughts of being right is sickening.
7 And [there is] none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.
None of us has motivated ourselves to seek Your Word. Our conduct has made You look the other way. When Your protection is not surrounding us, we die for what we have on to ourselves.
8 But now, O LORD, thou [art] our father; we [are] the clay, and thou our potter; and we all [are] the work of thy hand.
Lord, we know that You made us from clay. Being that You are the potter and we are as the clay we realize You made us and You are in control.
9 Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we [are] all thy people.
Lord help us. Do not be angry with us forever. Forgive us and allow us to be protected by You.
10 Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.
The enemy has destroyed the City You dwell in.
11 Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste.
Because we would not stop, the place You called home is not longer there.
12 Wilt thou refrain thyself for these [things], O LORD? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?
Will You keep Yourself away from us? Will lock down Your peace and cause us to feel the pain we brought upon ourselves?
