Jeremiah 6
1 O ye children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Bethhaccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.
God is speaking to Jerimiah and telling him to tell his people to sound the alarm and get out of town because the enemy is here! Although when Jerimiah prophesied these words in the ears of the people of God, they were only words and they did not want to hear Jerimiah's prophecy. However, when that day came everything God spoke happened exactly how he spoke years before it happened.
2 I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate [woman].
My people are like a pretty and harmless woman who has no idea she is in trouble.
3 The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch [their] tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.
Like shepherds, the enemies will surround themselves with you like sheep, the reason what's surrounding you is they will take everything that you have for themselves.
4 Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.
5 Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.
It seems the enemy had a plan but what they planned did not suit them for they were ready to attack. If they were planning to attack at noon, they were better prepared to attack at night! When the enemy wants to attack us, he is not organized so he will take any spot he can take.
6 For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this [is] the city to be visited; she [is] wholly oppression in the midst of her.
God gives instructions to the enemy on how to attack his own people. When we do not follow God's instructions, God will bring in somebody who will put us in a place that we do not want to be.
7 As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually [is] grief and wounds.
The people of God sinned like it was normal. Just like it is normal for water to flow through a faucet, so was it when the people of God turn against his word and lived their lives doing wrong all the time.
8 Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.
The prophecy that God was using to tell Jerimiah to inform his people had not happened at this time, it was a warning. He told Israel if you would only sit down and learn my word, I will turn all this evil away from you.
9 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.
God sees the future and he said they will pick up the people of God like grapes that have fallen to the ground and non-were missing.
10 To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear [is] uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.
God is saying is in a better paying me any attention? No. My people hate to hear my voice.
11 Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with [him that is] full of days.
God said I am tired of holding back, I will pour my anger on the husband, wife, old man, woman, little boy, and little girl.
12 And their houses shall be turned unto others, [with their] fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.
Jerimiah continues to name the people and things that will be taken over by the enemy. He speaks of the fields that will be taken and if they had more than one wife those wives will be taken also. God said he will stretch out His hand against His people in the land that I gave them say the Lord.
13 For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one [is] given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
From the riches to the poorest nobody was satisfied with what they had; the profits were not satisfied, and the priest was a thief.
14 They have healed also the hurt [of the daughter] of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when [there is] no peace.
Some said we will have peace and no problems. But God said you will have trouble and no peace.
15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time [that] I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
Where are you ashamed to commit abomination? No, you were not shamed when you sinned and you didn't stop when when you were caught. You will fall and you will be thrown down and I visit you.
16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where [is] the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk [therein].
If my people will turn around pick up my instructions, find out what to do, and do it, then all of what is going to happen will not happen.
17 Also I set watchmen over you, [saying], Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.
I sent you warnings and you refused to listen and you did not obey.
18 Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what [is] among them.
Since you did not listen to my warnings, listen to what I am saying to everybody, because what I am going to do will happen and you will not like it.
19 Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, [even] the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.
God is speaking to the earth, he said I will bring evil on this people because they continue to think to do wrong and they refused to obey my word and they constantly reject my word.
20 To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings [are] not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.
Why do you think I want your religious offerings? I will not accept anything from you because of your evil hearts.
21 Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.
God said I will cause you to stumble, the father and a son, the neighbor and friend shall die. God will use more than one stumbling block one block does not knock you down he has another.
22 Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.
Jeremiah speaks again in behalf of God saying, the enemy is coming from the north; they will travel to get you from places very far away.
23 They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they [are] cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.
These men act like beast and they will have no mercy, they are cruel. They will be organized and ready to attack.
24 We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, [and] pain, as of a woman in travail.
You would say we heard about these people and just the hearing of them will make you afraid.
25 Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy [and] fear [is] on every side.
There will be no reason to run because the enemy will be on every side.
26 O daughter of my people, gird [thee] with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, [as for] an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.
God is already saying put on your funeral outfits and cry as if you have lost your only son. The anime will come so fast you will not have time to do anything.
27 I have set thee [for] a tower [and] a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.
Jerimiah I have given you the authority to look around at my people so that you will know how they behave.
28 They [are] all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: [they are] brass and iron; they [are] all corrupters.
They all are no good.
29 The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away.
God uses the refiners method to refine silver. After the process of the experts who carefully go through each steps, silver, if is discovered, will manifest itself after the job is completed. God uses this analogy to show His people, I have done all I could to show you who you are, but you wiggled out my hand and now you have been counted as nothing. The processing I used on you, you decided you did not like the way I do what I do.
30 Reprobate silver shall [men] call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.
Silver that has no value will be what men will call you because the Lord has rejected you.
